Student · Debater · Athlete · Dreamer
Year 9 student at Melbourne with a love for ideas, words, sport, and all things beautiful. This is my corner of the internet — a place to document my journey, celebrate milestones, and grow into whoever I'm becoming.
I'm Ira Singhal — a Year 9 student based in Melbourne with an insatiable curiosity for learning and a love of putting ideas into words. Whether I'm standing at a podium to debate, competing in a swim meet, or exploring new fashion trends, I bring the same energy: full heart, open mind.
Outside the classroom, I'm probably at netball training, practising scales on the piano, researching skincare ingredients, or losing myself in a good playlist. I believe that doing well academically and enjoying life aren't mutually exclusive — if anything, they fuel each other.
This portfolio is my way of owning my story — celebrating what I've accomplished, documenting what I'm learning, and setting the stage for what comes next.
Always asking "why" — from science experiments to fashion sustainability to the history of a good debate.
Multi-year academic award winner with a track record of showing up, working hard, and celebrating every milestone.
A team player on the netball court and a collaborator in the classroom. I believe in lifting others as I rise.
From writing compelling speeches to curating outfits, I find joy in aesthetics and expression in all its forms.
Academic rigour, public speaking, and sport — Ira's achievements span multiple disciplines and continue to grow each year.
Achieved top 10% nationally across all five NAPLAN subjects in Year 9 — Reading, Writing, Language Conventions, Numeracy.

Beyond the classroom and the court — the passions that shape how I think, how I dress, and how I spend a lazy Sunday afternoon.
Curating looks, one outfit at a time
Fashion is my creative playground. From building capsule wardrobes to hunting for vintage jewellery, I see personal style as storytelling. Lately I've been exploring sustainable fashion — because looking good and doing good aren't mutually exclusive.
Glow from the inside out
I'm fascinated by the science behind skincare — understanding ingredients like niacinamide, SPF, and hyaluronic acid and what they actually do. A solid routine isn't vanity; it's self-care and curiosity combined.
Keys, chords, and everything in between
I've been playing piano for several years and love the way music can hold so many emotions at once. My current playlist? A very curated mix of pop, indie, and contemporary classical — yes, Taylor Swift features heavily.
"Long story short, I survived." — Taylor Swift
Words are my superpower
Debate and English awards haven't happened by accident. I love reading everything from literary fiction to science articles, and I write to process the world around me. This journal is an extension of that.
Sport, performance, and community — a full life lived both on and off the court.
A key team player who brings energy, focus, and teamwork to every match. Netball has taught me that the best results come from trusting the people alongside you.
Swimming is where I find focus and calm. There's something about the water — the rhythm of it — that clears my head and reminds me what I'm capable of.
Playing piano for several years, I've developed not just technique but a deep love for expression through music. Every piece is a new conversation.
A personal journal documenting what I'm learning, experiencing, and thinking about — from academics to skincare, sport to music.
Top 10% sounds like a number, but it represents months of quiet work, late-night notes, and believing in myself when it felt impossible. Here's what I actually learned.
Flying to New Zealand to debate in front of hundreds of people was the most terrifying and exhilarating thing I've done. Every second was worth it.
I went from no routine to a 5-step AM/PM ritual. Here's everything I wish someone had told me — ingredients, layering, and why sunscreen is non-negotiable.
The lessons from the court — timing, communication, resilience — have quietly shaped how I approach everything from group projects to tough exams.
I swapped fast fashion for secondhand for 30 days. What I found surprised me — both the bargains and the questions it raised about how we dress.
There's always one piece that breaks open your playing. For me, it was Chopin's Nocturne in E-flat. Here's the story of learning it, failing, and trying again.
